Sandalwood has one of the most recognised fragrances in the world, and yet it's remarkably hard to find rendered properly in incense. Most versions use synthetic substitutes that carry the name but not the warmth. This one uses pure sandalwood oil, the difference is immediately apparent.

Sacred Elephant's incense is made by a family of artisans in India whose knowledge of this craft spans two centuries, six or seven generations of accumulated skill, passed down and refined. In a country with no shortage of incense makers, they are among the finest.

Prema first met them in 2015, on his way to a personal meditation retreat in Vrindavan. The relationship that began there has shaped everything made since.

The process is genuinely collaborative. Prema and Yama design each scent, the character, the note structure, how it opens and how it develops, drawing on Prema's eighteen years in the ashrama and Yama's upbringing in the Peruvian Amazon, and their shared knowledge of how fragrance supports human life. The artisan family bring their generations of technical mastery: sourcing the oils, advising on what works, blending with a precision that only comes from that depth of experience.

The Luxury collection is where Sacred Elephant began, the range that everything since has grown from. Eleven fragrances, each crafted to the same standard, each offering something different. A natural starting point for those new to what incense can do, and the range most people return to every day.

Every stick is made by hand. The oils are blended, the mixture rolled, and the sticks set out to dry in the Indian sun, process unchanged in its essentials across the generations the artisan family have been doing it. Nothing is mechanical. The pace is deliberate.

Made from 100% natural ingredients: bamboo stick, coconut charcoal, pure ground sandalwood a botanical blend of herbs and spices, pure ground vanilla bean and the absolute oil that defines each scent. Pure, plant-based, nothing synthetic.

Ahimsa, non-harm, is not a marketing position for Sacred Elephant. It is the operating principle. Every ingredient is of natural origin and plant-based. Nothing synthetic enters the blend at any stage.

Most incense on the market uses synthetic fragrance oils. They are cheaper to produce, easier to standardise, and they carry none of the character of the real thing. Sacred Elephant doesn't use them. The difference is in every stick.

The packaging is designed to leave nothing behind. The boxes are printed in the UK on sustainably sourced board using vegetable-based inks, with a tree planted for every order. The shipping box is compostable cardboard. The mailer bag is made from potato and corn starch, fully compostable, gone within two years, leaving no trace.

Sacred Elephant supports a meditation centre in Bath, donates to Sea Shepherd's ocean conservation work, and contributes to charities in Vrindavan that feed sadhus and help educate children from less privileged families.
